'Twarz, Brzuch, Głowa' ('Face, Belly, Head)' is a graphic novel written by Wanda Hagedorn
and illustrated by Ola Szmida.
The comic consists of three main chapters: Face, Belly, and Head, as well as a prologue and epilogue. Each installment tells Wanda's story—her struggle to be herself in a patriarchal world. The book is based on Wanda's personal experiences—her childhood and adolescence in Poland, the birth of her children, her move to Australia, career and growing older. Her struggles, joys, and doubts are accompanied by quotes from Simone Weil, Susan Sontag, and Michael Foucault, as well as pop-cultural references like Sex and the City or Fleabag Wanda's story is rooted in the contemporary world—showing how the personal is political and how politics impacts the lives of each of us.
'Face Belly Head' received the Warsaw Literary Award for the best comic book
"Feminization - I coined this term to describe the long-term and multi-stage process
of instructing girls how to be girls according to patriarchal rules."
